What the survey involves

An acoustic treatment survey is an on-site visit to your space. We take measurements, listen to how the room behaves, and gather the information needed to make informed treatment recommendations.

Most visits take between 1–3 hours depending on the size and complexity of the space. You don't need to do anything to prepare — we bring all the measurement equipment.

What we measure

  • Reverberation time (RT60 / T30) — how long it takes for sound to decay by 60dB after a source stops. Measured across multiple frequency bands in accordance with BS EN ISO 3382-2.
  • Early decay time (EDT) — the perceived reverberance from the listener's perspective, often more relevant than RT60 in smaller rooms.
  • Flutter echo — rapid reflections between parallel surfaces. Identified by ear and confirmed with measurement.
  • Problem frequency bands — which parts of the spectrum are contributing most to the acoustic problem.

Who it's for

This survey is suitable for any space where sound quality is the issue — not sound transmission. Common use cases:

  • Home studios with excessive reverb or flutter echo
  • Offices and meeting rooms with poor speech intelligibility
  • Schools and nurseries that need to meet BB93 reverberation criteria
  • Restaurants and bars where background noise makes conversation difficult
  • Churches and village halls with long reverb tails

If your problem is noise coming from outside or through walls — that's a soundproofing issue, not acoustic treatment. See the Soundproofing Survey instead.

What you receive

  • A written report with your measured reverberation times across all key frequency bands
  • Comparison against relevant targets (BB93 for schools, BS EN ISO 3382-2 reference values for other spaces)
  • Specific treatment recommendations: product types, estimated quantities, and suggested placement
  • An honest assessment of what improvement is achievable and by how much

We don't sell you treatment you don't need. If the room is already performing adequately, we'll say so.

Standards referenced

  • BS EN ISO 3382-2:2008 — Measurement of room acoustic parameters — methods for ordinary rooms
