What it is
A desktop assessment is a remote acoustic review — carried out without a site visit. You provide us with architectural drawings, floor plans, specification documents, or other relevant project information, and we review them from an acoustic perspective.
It's most useful at the early stages of a project, when it's still practical to change construction details or room layouts. Making acoustic decisions after a build is complete is always more expensive and less effective.
What we review
- Floor plans and section drawings — room sizes, adjacencies, and potential flanking paths
- Construction specifications — wall build-ups, floor assemblies, window and door specifications
- HVAC or mechanical plant layouts — sources of noise and vibration
- Proposed room uses — understanding what acoustic performance is actually needed
Who it's for
- Architects and developers who need acoustic input during design — without the cost of a full third-party acoustic assessment
- Homeowners planning a renovation who want to understand acoustic risks before work starts
- Anyone converting a space (loft, garage, outbuilding) who needs to know if the planned construction will achieve adequate sound insulation
- Recording studio designers at the layout stage
What you receive
- A written assessment identifying acoustic risks in your current plans
- Practical recommendations for design changes or specification improvements
- Reference to relevant standards and target performance levels where applicable
- An honest view of what the planned construction is likely to achieve — including where your expectations may be higher than the build can deliver
A desktop assessment is not a substitute for on-site measurement. If you already have a completed space with a noise problem, the Acoustic Treatment Survey or Soundproofing Survey will be more appropriate.
