What the survey involves
A soundproofing survey is an on-site visit to measure how much sound is passing through your walls, floors, or ceilings — and to work out where it's coming from and why.
We use calibrated measurement equipment to carry out airborne and impact sound insulation tests in accordance with BS 8233. Visits typically take 2–4 hours depending on the number of elements being tested.
What we measure
- Airborne sound insulation (DnT,w) — how well a partition reduces noise from voices, music, and other airborne sources.
- Impact sound insulation (L'nT,w) — how much footfall and impact noise transmits through floors.
- Flanking transmission — sound travelling around a partition via adjoining structures. Often the reason why treatment of a single wall doesn't solve the problem.
Who it's for
This survey is for anyone with a noise problem caused by sound coming in, going out, or travelling between rooms:
- Residential properties where neighbour noise is the issue
- New builds or conversions where partitions aren't performing as expected
- Landlords or developers needing pre- or post-completion sound insulation testing
- Commercial spaces where noise between offices, studios, or plant rooms is a problem
What you receive
- Measured sound insulation values for each tested element
- Comparison against BS 8233 and Approved Document E criteria where applicable
- A diagnosis of the primary transmission paths causing the problem
- Written remediation recommendations with product types and expected performance improvement
Standards referenced
- BS 8233:2014 — Guidance on sound insulation and noise reduction for buildings
- Approved Document E — Resistance to the passage of sound (England and Wales Building Regulations)
All surveys are carried out using calibrated measurement equipment and follow the methodology set out in these standards.
